Sean McCaffrey’s under 17 team defended stoutly throughout this afternoon’s encounter with France until the final minute when they conceded a penalty which was converted by the French. The 1-0 defeat is a reversal of Tuesday’s opening tie in this two game series.

The Club sponsored DDSL Under 12 Premier team kept up their fight with Cherry Orchard for the League Championship with a 1-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers on Monday evening. The boys return to the top of the league with a one point advantage, but of course Cherry Orchard have a vital game in hand.

Linfield in Setanta Cup Final...18/05/2005
Linfield reached the final of the inaugural Setanta Cup with a resounding 4-2 success over their Belfast arch rivals Glentoran at the Oval on Tuesday evening. They will now face Shelbourne at Tolka Park on Saturday next, 21 May 2005 at 19.30 hours in what promises to be a titanic battle.

U17’s Pass French Test... 18/05/2005
Sean McCaffrey’s U17 team, which included a number of new faces, gave a sterling performance in Ozoir La Ferrieres on Tuesday evening and a spectacular goal in the 54th minute from Crumlin United’s Adam Rooney brought a well merited victory. The team will face up to their French opponents when they meet again in Chelles on Thursday afternoon.

The St Kevin’s Premier U12 team sponsored by the Club travelled to The Lawn, home of old rivals Cherry Orchard, and were defeated 3-1 by their hosts. The victors now go two points clear in the League and with only three games remaining St Kevin’s face an uphill task to retrieve the situation.

Double Success for Butler’s Boys... 15/05/2005
Vincent Butler’s U15 teams both won their respective Sections of the Triangular Tournament held in Belfast this weekend. The ‘A’ team defeated host Northern Ireland 2-1, which together with their 6-1 victory over Wales the previous day, ensured maximum points in their series. The ‘B’ team were held to a 1-1 draw by the hosts but, aligned to their earlier defeat of Wales who themselves were successful against Northern Ireland, that was sufficient for them to also win their section.

Peter Thompson ended Longford Town hopes of an appearance in the Final of the first edition of the Setanta Cup. He scored after 25 minutes to secure Linfield a place in the Final, that is, if they don't lose by more than two goals to Glentoran next week. In the final they could be pitted against an Eircom team, either Cork City or Shelbourne. More>

FIFA bans Trezeguet for two games... 03/05/05
French striker David Trezeguet has been banned for two matches by Fifa for headbutting an opponent during a World Cup qualifier against Israel in April. "That is the minimum for a player hitting another player," a French Football Federation spokesman said. Trezeguet will miss France's Group 4 qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and the Republic of Ireland on 3 and 7 September respectively. But he will be back for France's last two qualifiers in October.
