Ireland Amateur team defeat England...30/09/2006
Gerry Smith's Ireland Amateur International team wound up their preparations for the UEFA Regions' Cup with an excellent 1 nil victory over England tonight. Ireland dominated the match throughout with the winning goal being scored in the second half by John O'Neill of Wayside Celtic. The beautiful playing surface of Cooke Park, Tipperary was the venue for the game. Gerry Smith expressed himself as very pleased with the performance of the team and his preparations for The UEFA Regions' Cup Group 1 qualifiers in France at the end of the month. In addition to the hosts, Ireland will face Lithuania and European Champions Spain.


Senior Squad suffers midfield crisis...29/09/2006
The squad for the upcoming fixtures with Cyprus and the Czech Republic will be without injured midfielders Graham Kavanagh and Steven Reid while another midfield player Andy Reid, will not be available for the opening game against Cyprus.


Under 16s lose narrowly to France...28/09/2006
Vincent Butler’s Ireland lost 2-1 to France in the Brittany town of St Brieuc this evening. Ireland’s goal was scored by Aaron Doran of Blackburn Rovers. Despite the defeat, manager Butler, was very pleased with the character and performance of his squad and is looking forward to the double header against Finland in Dublin next week.


Disappointing exit for Derry City28/09/2006
Derry City's European adventure came to an end in Paris this evening when they went down to a 2 nil defeat to Paris St Germain. The 'Candystripes' gave a fine account of themselves, but on the night, their French opponents just had that extra bit of class. Derry City's performance in reaching this stage of the UEFA Cup is laudable and reflects positively on the Club and on domestic Irish football.

U17s win qualifying group in Baku28/09/2006
Goals from Michael Collins of Liverpool and Manchester City's Ian Daly gave Ireland a 2 nil win over Latvia this afternoon. Sean McCaffrey's team has won their Qualifying Group and now proceed to the Elite Group stage of the qualifying process for the U17 European Championship Finals which will take place in Belgium during May 2007.

Irish Women guarantee qualification28/09/2006
Ireland's U19 Women, secured qualification for the next phase of the 2007 European Championships with a resounding 5-1 victory over Bulgaria this morning. With Ireland and Italy both having won their two opening Group fixtures, their meeting on Sunday morning will decide who wins the Group. Congratulations to Susan Ronan and her players on their success.

French parity for Butler's Boys...26/09/2006
Vincent Butler's Ireland U16 team maintained their unbeaten record with a splendid 1 all draw against a gifted France in Guingamp outside Paris this evening.Ireland recovered from conceding a first half goal to score a deserved equaliser through substitute Gearoid Morrissey from Ringmahon Rangers in Cork. The team will meet their French hosts again on Thursday evening in Saint Brieuc.


Suberb start for Irish Women...26/09/2006
A hat trick from Stella Maris striker Aine O'Gorman highlighted a fine team performance as Susan Ronan's Republic of Ireland U19 Women opened their 2007 European Championship qualifying campaign today. Aoife Herbert of Ballina Town provided the other goal in a 4 nil triumph over host nation Slovakia. Ireland will face Bulgaria in their second game on Thursday morning.


Victory in Baku puts U17s in pole position...25/09/2006
Ireland defeated host nation Azerbaijan in their second group qualifying match in Baku this afternoon. Goals either side of half time from Conor McCormack and Gareth Matthews sealed a deserved 2 nil victory. With the tie between Denmark and Latvia ending in a draw, Ireland now top the Group and a draw in their final match with Latvia on Thursday will send them through to the Elite Group stage of the UEFA Championships.

Paul McShane joins Senior Squad...25/09/2006
West Bromwich Albion centre back Paul McShane has been called into the Republic of Ireland senior international squad for the upcoming EURO 2008 fixtures with Cyprus and the Czech Republic. Andy Reid of Charlton Athletic, and Ipswich Town striker Alan Lee, have also been recalled to the squad. With Shay Given missing through injury, Manager Stephen Staunton will have fingers crossed for the safe return of Paddy Kenny to first team duty at Sheffield United. Kenny has missed the last three games himself through injury.

U17s earn deserved draw with Denmark...23/09/2006
Sean McCaffrey's Ireland team opened their UEFA U17 Qualifying Group 6 campaign with a scoreless draw against group favourites Denmark in Baku today.A determined Ireland gave a disciplined defensive performance with goalkeeper Kieron Thorp in commanding form. The Danes dominated possession during the first half but could find no way past the Charlton Athletic netminder. Ireland improved in the second half and fully deserved their hard earned draw. Ireland will next face host nation Azerbaijan on Moday afternoon.

Taut emotions in Tolka thriller...22/09/2006
The Eircom League's top two, Shelbourne and Derry City provided another gripping episode in their rivalry at Tolka Park tonight. Derry took command mid way through the first half with two goals in quick succession. As half time approached, the dismissal of Derry goalkeeper Pat Jennings changed the emphasis of the game. The second half was pure theatre with Shelbourne seeking to take advantage of their extra man. A scorching drive from captain Owen Heary reduced arrears and a Glen Crowe header levelled matters. In a tense and often titanic finale, depleted Derry held firm to garner a point.

Derry City retain Eircom League Cup..18/09/2006
The Brandywell witnessed more than two hours of intense action tonight as Derry City defeated Shelbourne to lift the Eircom League Cup. The sides finished level at nil all after ninety minutes with Derry goalkeeper David Forde dismissed with six minutes remaining for hand ball outside the penalty area. Extra time failed to produce a goal and so a penalty shoot out ensued. Substitute goalkeeper Pat Jennings, son of the legendary Pat, was the Derry hero as the Candystripes triumphed three nil in the shoot out.

RISSC crushed by Canaries in League opener...17/09/2006
An understrength RISSC (London) football team suffered a catasthropic 9-5 defeat to Norwich City SC in their opening APFSCIL Division One league fixture this afternoon. The opposition was much tougher than last week's friendly game with Hull City SC, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Manager Paul Franklin will be looking for a much improved performance when the team face Stoke City SC at the LPR Sports Ground next Sunday.

Heroic Derry City hold Paris St. Germain...14/09/2006
Derry City played out an excellent nil all draw with French giants Paris St. Germain in the first leg of the UEFA Cup First Round Proper at the Brandywell tonight. The Candystripes matched their illustrious opponents in most aspects of the game and might well have won the match. A first half Killian Brennan effort struck the crossbar and City were denied a clear penalty when Kevin McHugh was brought down well inside the penalty area early in the second half. While the odds will not favour Derry when they travel to Paris in two week's time, all indications are that they will give another good account of themselves.

Under 21s out of European Championships..06/09/2006
Don Givens received a brief glimmer of hope midway through the second half of the Belgium v Greece game this evening, when the visitors took the lead. However, Irish hopes of qualifying for the play-offs were dashed by two late Belgian goals which secured the Group for them.

Irish pride restored in Stuttgart...02/09/2006
Stephen Staunton's Republic of Ireland may have lost their opening European Championship qualifier to Germany by one goal tonight, but the team went some considerable way to restoring pride following the recent disaster against Holland. The side as a unit, played with a commitment and desire that gives rise to a sense of optimism rather than hope for the remaining ties in the qualifying campaign. The October double header against Cyprus in Nicosia, and the Czech Republic in Dublin, four days later, will now be anticipated with greater relish than might have previously been expected.

Under 21s fate in Lap of the Greeks...01/09/2006
The Republic of Ireland Under 21 side went down to a 1-0 defeat to Belgium in Galway tonight. The result means that they must hope for a 1 or 2 goal success for Greece, who travel to Belgium next Wednesday.
