Club Team climb to second place in APFSCIL League

Norwich City SC 2-6 RISSC (London) - Sunday 12 October 2008

The RISSC (London) football team followed up their trouncing of perennial rivals Glasgow Rangers SC, with another resounding victory this afternoon to move into second position in the APFSCIL League First Division. High flying Norwich City SC, who led early on, were on the end of a 6-2 trouncing at their home venue near the banks of the Thames in Chiswick.

RISSC got off to an excellent start and took an early lead when a Mick Dunford corner was deflected to the net by a Norwich defender. The euphoria of this early success was diluted when the hosts equalised shortly afterwards with a long range shot which beat goalkeeper Darren Nolan. Buoyed by their equaliser, Norwich attacked again and much to the dismay of RISSC manager Paul Franklin took the lead when they punished slack Irish defending. With the returning Richie Dempsey to the fore, RISSC gradually recovered their poise and began to make a stronger imprint on proceedings. Reward followed, shortly before the break, when a Ray Logue cross was struck to the net by an alert Mick Dunford.

The 'boys in green' opened the second half with greater poise and purpose and took a firm grip of proceedings. Reward soon followed and the lead was restored with a fine strike from central midfielder Ray Logue. Now brimming with confidence, RISSC continued to attack and a quick corner exchange between Dunford and Paul released Victor Carnevale to fire home from the edge of the penalty area. With RISSC now in total command, it was no surprise when Hugo Fernandes struck a twenty five yard scorcher to the net and the icing on the 'six goal' cake was provided by 'man of the match' Richie Dempsey with the final strike.

The resounding victories in the last two matches, have rendered the opening day havoc wrought by the men representing Aberdeen SC to a dim and distant memory. However, this current euphoria must be tempered with caution for the journey ahead. There will be darker days, but for now the boys will bask in the sunlight of success and look forward with ambition to the challenges to come.

The next fixture will be at the LPR Sports Ground on Sunday 19 October 2008 when RISSC take on promoted side London Scottish SC, who have had a disappointing start to their First Division campaign.
