U19 star Lanre Oyebanjo in FA Cup action
Republic
of Ireland Under 19 International Lanre Oyebanjo is expected to return to
first team duty for Blue Square Premier League leaders Histon FC, when they
face Leeds United in the second round of the FA Cup at 12.30pm on Sunday 30
November 2008.
Eighteen year
old right back Oyebanjo, whose mother hails from Dublin, has been a consistent
performer for the club on the fringes of Cambridge, which he joined in July
2008 from Brentford.
The powerfully built defender, named Blue Square Premier Player of the Month
for October 2008, has just returned from international duty with the Republic
of Ireland Under 19 side which qualified for the Elite Stage of the 2009 UEFA
Championships in Malta last week.
The athletic Oyebanjo, lends to his burgeoning reputation, with his long throw prowess and also offers quality with his dead ball delivery, being a regular corner and free kick taker for his club.
The emerging Oyebanjo was spotted by Histon Youth Academy Director, the redoubtable Irishman Kit Carson, who possesses an enviable record in the production of talented young players who have progressed to greater heights. Carson spent ten years with Norwich City and was instrumental in producing players such as Ruel Fox and Chris Sutton before joining Peterborough United in 1993. Amongst his protegees at London Road are current Premiership players Simon Davies and Matthew Etherington.
Carson left Peterborough in the summer of 2005 and set up the Kit Carson Football Development Centre in Cambridgeshire. In September of that year, he also linked up with Chelsea as East Anglia Scouting Co-ordinator. His passion for football was further emphasised when he also took on the role of Youth Academy Director with Histon FC in 2006.
