Drogheda United in UEFA Champions League victory...23/07/2008
Reigning eircom Premier League of Ireland champions Drogheda United scored a one nil victory over the champions of Estonia, FC Levadia, in Tallinn this afternoon in the first round second leg of the UEFA Champions League and go through to the next round on a 3-1 aggregate. The goal from Graham Gartland came three minutes into the second half and sets up a mouth watering clash with Dynamo Kiev in the next round.

Ray Houghton becomes FAI Ambassador...21/07/2008
The Football Association of Ireland has announced that Ray Houghton will become an Ambassador for the Association. It is intended that Ray will use his extensive contacts and international profile to promote Irish soccer, while assisting the Association in delivering its commercial and corporate goals.

U17 Women cruise to victory in Castlebar ...20/07/2008
The opening day of the annual Festival of Football week, linked to the FAI Annual General Meeting, featured the meeting of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland Under 17 Women in Milebush Park, Castlebar on Sunday evening.
The home side cruised to an emphatic 7-1 victory with home county striker Orla Devanney from Ballina Town scoring a first half hat-trick. Further goals from Maria Delahunty, Ciara Grant and a brace from Kirsty Keogh completed the rout.


Cork City haul back two goal deficit in UEFA Cup ...17/07/2008
Turner's Cross was silenced after 14 minutes of this evening's UEFA Cup first round, first leg meeting of Cork City and FK Haka from Finland, when the visitors opened the scoring. The second half was only a few minutes old when the home side conceded a second goal. City, who have been in excellent form recently,showed their mettle with a storming fightback and goals from the prolific Dave Mooney on 64 minutes and an equaliser three minutes later from Dan Murray gives them some hope for the away leg at the end of the month.


St Patrick's Athletic take away lead from Latvia ...17/07/2008
A goal from Ryan Guy after 76 minutes gave St Patrick's Athletic an away first leg UEFA Cup victory over JFK Olimps of Latvia in Riga this afternoon.
The Inchicore side will be strongly fancied to progress to the next round when the second leg takes place in Richmond Park on Thursday 31 July 2008.


Drogheda United open Champions League campaign...16/07/2008
Reigning eircom Premier Division champions Drogheda United opened their European campaign with a hard fought 2-1 victory over FC Levadia Tallinn from Estonia in the first round, first leg of the UEFA Champions League in Dalymount Park this evening. The visitors took the lead on 27 minutes and Drogheda had to wait until five minutes into the second half before Ollie Cahill equalised. Recent signing Faz Kudozovic scored the winner on 69 minutes.


Bohemian FC win but go out of Intertoto Cup...12/07/2008
The 'Gypsies'
, who lost to the only goal from FK Riga of Latvia in the first leg second round of the Intertoto Cup, scored a 2-1 victory in this evening's second leg in Dalymount Park, but exit the competition on the 'away goals rule'. Defender Jason McGuiness levelled the aggregate score on twenty minutes but the visitors scored the vital 'away' goal after 65 minutes. Killian Brennan's 90th minutes penalty won the game on the night for Bohemian FC but did not prevent their exit from the competition.


New International Performance Director announced...11/07/2008
The Football Association of Ireland this morning announced the appointment of Wim Koevermans as International Performance Director. The 48 year old Koevermans is currently employed by the Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) in his native Holland and his appointment will commence on 1 September 2008.


Ireland finish sixth at 2008 Deaf World Cup...11/07/2008
The Republic of Ireland Deaf International soccer team, went down one nil to host nation Greece in K.Achaia this morning in the play-off competition at the Deaf World Cup Finals. Ireland finished this inaugural competition in an excellent sixth position.


RISSC (London) repeat Charity Golf success...08/07/2008
The Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club (London) was again delighted to be a supporter of and participant in the Annual Charity Golf event staged in aid of St Luke's Hospice, Kenton. The event was hosted by Northwood Golf Club and history will record that the men of RISSC (London) reprised the winning result of last year.


Ireland lose to France in World Deaf quarter-final...08/07/2008
The Republic of Ireland Deaf International soccer team went down to a 2-1 extra time defeat by France in the quarter-final of the inaugural World Deaf Championship in Greece on Tuesday afternoon. Mark Sinclair gave Ireland a twelfth minute lead, but the French equalised on the stroke of half-time. The second half was evenly contested and the match went to extra-time, where France scored the winner. Ireland will now meet Russia on Thursday morning in the 5th to 8th place play-off section.


Ireland crash to Ukraine but qualify for quarter-finals...07/07/2008
The Republic of Ireland Deaf International soccer team went down to an emphatic 4-1 defeat in this afternoon's final group match against Ukraine, but the goal, a penalty converted by Eamon Byrne, was enough to earn Ireland a quarter-final place against France on Tuesday afternoon,at the World Deaf Championship Finals, currently taking place in Greece.


Bohemian FC go down by single goal in Liepaja...06/07/2008
Following their emphatic victoriers over Rhyl FC in the first round of the Intertoto Cup, Bohemian FC this afternoon went down by the only goal to FK Riga of Latvia in the first leg second round of the competition. The 'Gypsies' will seek to overturn the position when the second leg takes place in Dalymount Park next weekend.


Ireland trounce Venezuela in Deaf World Cup today...04/07/2008
The Republic of Ireland Deaf International soccer team is on the verge of qualification for the quarter-finals of the World Deaf Championship Finals following their 9-2 annihilation of Venezuela in their second Group fixture in Greece this afternoon. Ireland face Ukraine, who were defeated two nil by Italy today, in their final Group fixture on Monday afternoon.

The Republic of Ireland Deaf International soccer team opened their World Championship Finals campaign with a two nil victory over Italy in Egio, Greece this morning. In the other Group tie played today, Ukraine defeated Venezuela by five goals to nil.


Eastern travel for eircom League Clubs in UEFA Cup...01/07/2008
eircom League of Ireland representatives Cork City and St Patrick's Athletic face lengthy journeys in the first round of the UEFA Cup. Cork City face FC Haka of Finland, with the first leg in Turner's Cross on Thursday 17 July 2008 while St Patrick's Athletic travel to Latvia to meet JFK Olimps on the same evening.


Tough Champions League draw for Drogheda United...01/07/2008
The draw for the opening rounds of the Champions League took place in Nyon, Switzerland today. League Champions Drogheda United will meet FC Levadia Tallinn from Estonia in the first round of the Champions League with the winners facing FC Dinamo Kiev of the Ukraine in the second preliminary round.
