Super Stokes strikes again...30/12/2006
Our very own Anthony Stokes said farewell in style to 2007, with another sparkling first half hat-trick for loan club Falkirk this afternoon. Stokes, on loan from Arsenal, now heads the Scottish Premier League goalscoring charts with 14 goals.

Limerick leave the Eircom League of Ireland?...19/12/2006
It has been confirmed that Limerick FC failed in their appeal against the refusal to grant the club a League Licence and therefore can not participate in the Eircom League of Ireland next season. The FAI has issued a notice, inviting applications from suitably qualified clubs in and around the Limerick area to replace the old Limerick FC in the First Division next season.

Fran Gavin - Director - Eircom League of Ireland...13/12/2006
The FAI has confirmed the appointment of former PFAI General Secretary Fran Gavin to the new position of Director of the Eircom League of Ireland. The former League goalkeeper Noel Mooney has also been appointed to the new role of National Club Promotions Officer.

The Noel King managed Senior Ireland Women's team will face the daunting challenge of playing Sweden, Italy, Hungary and Romania in Group 2 of the UEFA Women's EURO 2009 Championship qualifiers following the draw made in Nyon, Switzerland this afternoon.


2007 Premier Division structure announced...11/12/2006
The twelve teams selected to form the new Eircom FAI Premier League were confirmed today. The revised structure will see Shamrock Rovers and Galway United promoted from last season's first division while Waterford United have been demoted to division one.

Draw made for 2007 Setanta Sports Cup...07/12/2006
The draw for the third staging of the Setanta Sports Cup was made this afternoon and sees holders Drogheda United compete in Group 1 with Derry City and the Belfast duo of Glentoran and Linfield. Group 2 features Cork City and Shelbourne from the Eircom League and Carnegie League representatives Dungannon Swifts and Portadown.


Salthill Devon win Eircom U21 League...06/12/2006
Salthill Devon defeated Cork City by 2 goals to 1 in Terryland Park to win the Eircom U21 League and lift the Dr Tony O'Neill Trophy. The West Galway team were worthy victors and become the first, non national league club to succeed at this level. Salthill Devon boast one of the finest soccer facilities in Ireland and have some 27 teams competing from Under 11 to Junior level.


McCaffrey pleased despite French defeat...06/12/2006
Ireland's U19 team lost 1 nil to France this afternoon. The match took place in the compact Michel Hidalgo Stadium in Paris before a capacity 7,000 crowd. The French goal came from a free kick on 30 minutes, which deflected off the wall into the net. Ireland recovered from a very powerful start by the hosts and came more into the game as time passed. The best scoring opportunities fell to James O'Shea, Scott Davies and captain Robert Bayley but all were denied. Manager Sean McCaffrey expressed satisfaction with the performance of his players, having lost nine from his original squad selection.


U19s to face Germany in Elite Group...05/12/2006
Sean McCaffrey's Ireland Under 19 team was today drawn in Group One of the Elite qualifying stage for the UEFA European Championship Finals to be played in Austria next July. The group, from which the winner only will emerge, contains Germany, Bulgaria and top seeds Hungary.


German repeat for U17s at Elite stage...05/12/2006
Ireland's Under 17 team will, like the U19 team, meet old rivals Germany in Group One of the Elite qualifying round for the UEFA U17 European Championships. The group also contains Greece and Scotland. The finals will take place in Belgium during May 2007.

U19 Women in tough Elite Group...05/12/2006
Ireland's Under 19 Women will face challenging opposition from France, Holland and Portugal in the Elite qualifying stage for the 2007 UEFA European Championship. Manager Sue Ronan acknowledged the difficulty of the group but is quietly confident that her young charges can progress to the finals, to be played in Iceland in July 2007.


Derry win dramatic FAI Cup Final...03/12/2006
Derry City came from behind on three occasions before a goal in the second period of extra-time put them in front for the first time in what was a thrilling FAI Carlsberg Cup Final. The 'Candystripes' held out for the remainder of the game to secure their second cup trophy of the season.


Brave Bray sunk by Cork in U21 semi-final...02/12/2006
The Bray Wanderers U21 team managed by John Finnegan
put in a valiant but ultimately unsuccessful effort to reach the final of the FAI U21 League. Bray twice took the lead during regular time but were pegged back on both occasions.Following a scoreless period of extra time, the match was decided in a penalty shoot-out where Cork prevailed by 3 goals to 1. The Leesiders will meet Salthill Devon from Galway in the final. The match will be played in Terryland Park, Galway on Wednesday next 6 December 2006 at 7.30pm.
