side which will compete at the UEFA Championship Elite Stage to be hosted by

earn deserved draw in Bari this evening...01/04/2009
A Robbie Keane goal three minutes from the end
of normal time earned Ireland a deserved draw against world
champions Italy in Bari tonight. Following the early dismissal
of Italian striker Pazzini for an elbow on John O'Shea, the hosts took
an eleventh minute lead through Iaquinta. Thereafter Ireland dominated possession
but were unable to create any clear chances. Manager Giovanni Trapattoni
surprised many with the early substitution of Andy Keogh
by the more physical Caleb Folan. Ireland again dominated second
half possession but rarely threatened until the late equaliser from Keane. Indeed
they could, probably should, have won the game with substitute Noel
Hunt and Keane missing good chances in added time.
