Richard Dunne returns to Manchester...19/11/2008
Manchester City captain Richard Dunne has returned to England, as his wife went into labour last night. A final decision on whether he will return to take part in this evening's match against Poland will be made later today.


First Division first leg play-off this evening...18/11/2008
The first leg of the play-off for inclusion in the League of Ireland First Division next season, took place this evening in Fahy's Field, when non-league side Mervue United from Galway drew two all with Kildare County who finished bottom of the Division in the season which has just ended. The hosts swept into a two nil first half lead through Ollie Keogh and Dave Goldbey, but the visitors recovered and a second half brace from Phil Hughes makes them favaouites to retain their League position in the second leg which is set for Newbridge on Friday evening.


Shay Given captains Ireland against Poland tomorrow...18/11/2008
Goalkeeper Shay Given will captain the Republic of Ireland, on his ninety first international appearance, when they face Poland in Croke Park on Wednesday evening. The only changes to the starting eleven that faced Cyprus see Andy Keogh and Caleb Folan come in for the injured McGeady and Keane.

Robbie Keane out of squad for Poland game...17/11/2008
Captain Robbie Keane, who suffered a shoulder injury on Saturday, has been forced to withdraw from the squad for the friendly fixture against Poland in Croke Park on Wednesday 19 November 2008.
Midfielder Aiden McGeady and goalkeeper Dean Kiely have also withdrawn from the squad through injury. Noel Hunt of Reading and Coventry City goalkeeper Kieren Westwood have been called up as replacements.


Under 20 League of Ireland action this afternoon...16/11/2008
Kilkenny City secured their first victory in Pool 2 of the Under 20 League with a three one home success over Cobh Ramblers this afternoon. FC Carlow, another non-league club, secured a three two away victory over Limerick 37 to continue their fine start to the campaign. The South East derby ended in a one nil victory for visitors Wexford Youths over Waterford United. The Pool 3 meeting of Finn Harps and Galway United ended in a two all draw.


Dundalk win promotion to Premier Division tonight...15/11/2008
Dundalk won the First Division and promotion to the Premier Division of the League of Irel
and, courtesy of their six one victory over Kildare County tonight. Four goal Robbie Farrell was the star turn while David Cassidy and Derek Doyle added late goals. Their was dramatic and major disappointment for Shelbourne who, leading through an Anto Flood goal, were in pole position as their match with Limerick 37 went into added time, only for them to suffer heartbreak when Colin Scanlon scored a late late equaliser for the visitors.


eircom First Division programme ends this evening...15/11/2008
The final eircom First Division fixtures of this season took place this evening when Athlone Town and midland rivals Longford Town played out a scoreless draw in Lissywoollen while Monaghan United defeated Waterford United in Century Homes Park by two goals to nil. Finally, the League's two newest clubs, Wexford Youths and Sporting Fingal complete their season by sharing four goals in Ferrycarrig Park.


Galway United survive in relegation dogfight tonight...14/11/2008
Galway United survive in the Premier Division, courtesy of a goal after thirty six minutes from skipper John Fitzgerald in their Belfield Bowl meeting with already relegated UCD tonight. Finn Harps, fill the third relegation position, despite their valiant two nil home victory over Shamrock Rovers.


Sligo Rovers grasp final UEFA place in league finale...14/11/2008
The UEFA Cup place reserved for the club finishing fourth in the eircom Premier Division went to Sligo Rovers, following their two nil home victory over Bray Wanderers. First half goals from Mauro Almeida and Conor O'Grady brought joy for the 'Bit o' Red' as Cork City went down three one to League Champions Bohemian FC in Dalymount Park.


Reid and O'Brien out of squad for Poland game...10/11/2008
Giovanni Trapattoni this morning announced a twenty three man squad for the friendly fixture against Poland in Croke Park on Wednesday 19 November 2008. The squad does not include Andy Reid or Joey O'Brien who have both recently occupied many column inches relating to their International positions. The squad replicates that selected for the World Cup qualifier with Cyprus, save that Daryl Murphy has also been excluded. None of the touted youngsters has been included, with Keith Andrews and Kevin Foley being the only uncapped players in the squad.


St Pat's clinch runner-up spot in Inchicore this evening...10/11/2008
St Patrick's Athletic clinched the runners-up position in the eircom Premier Division with a 2-1 victory over third place Derry City in Richmond Park this evening. Keith Fahey gave the hosts the lead six minutes before the break and a Mark Quigley penalty six minutes from time secured victory, despite a late scare when Mark Farren scored in the final minute.


Late Cobh Ramblers disappointment tonight ...08/11/2008
Cobh Ramblers one season flirtation with the eircom Premier Division is virtually ended following their two nil defeat by champions Bohemian FC in St Colman's Park this evening. Two goals in the final five minutes from Lithuanian international Mindaugas Kalones secured victory for the champions and, short of a goal scoring miracle on Friday next, has consigned Cobh to the First Division next season.

Galway United triumph in relegation battle tonight...07/11/2008
Galway United emerged from tonight's battle for survival in the eircom Premier Division with a three nil home victory over Finn Harps, which moved them out of the bottom three and put their visitors in the relegation zone.Second half goals from Marc McCulloch, Alan Murphy and John Lester mean Jeff Kenna's side travel to already relegated UCD on Friday next with their destiny in their own hands.
