to our Seventh Annual Charity Quiz Night
As we enter another New Year, preparations for our Seventh Annual Charity Quiz Night are in full swing. We anticipate another evening of tension filled drama as members and guests battle to lift the Quiz Champions title. Our General Club Meeting is set for 7.30pm on Friday 3 February 2012, to be followed shortly afterwards by the Quiz Event. The usual Charity Raffle will take place during the evening and we invite members and guests to join us for another night of unbridled drama with the proceeds going to our nominated charity for this year - Aisling - Return to Ireland Project. Entry Fee is £10 for each two member team and individuals are very much encouraged to attend as the organising committee will ensure participation for all. Midlands
FA Cup contests for Irish on Saturday...28/01/2012
Two FA Cup fourth round contests are set to feature several Irish candidates on Saturday afternoon. Derby County from the Championship, with Paul Green and under 21 player Jeff Hendrick in their squad, host Stoke City for whom Jonathan Walters, Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson have been mainstays all season. Ireland Assistant Manager Marco Tardelli is believed to have been in attendance at the FA Cup fourth round contest which saw Everton come from behind to defeat Fulham by two goals to one at Goodison Park this evening. Darron Gibson and Shane Duffy both completed ninety minutes for the home side, while the injured Seamus Coleman remained an absentee. The 2012 Setanta Sports Cup launch took place at the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The semi-final second leg of the Carling Cup between Cardiff City and Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening saw Under 21 striker Sean Scannell together with senior loanee Paul McShane introduced as second half substitutes for the visitors, who lost in a penalty shoot-out. The FA Cup third round replay between local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City ended in a one nil victory for the visiting Championship side. Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt were joined in the home side's starting eleven by U21 candidate Matt Doherty while Stephen Ward, introduced with ten minutes remaining, Andrew Keogh and U19 midfielder Anthony Forde were on the substitute bench. Head Coach John Morling saw his Republic of Ireland Under 16 side score a two one victory over hosts Portugal in Caldas de Reinha, thirty miles north of Lisbon, this afternoon. Early goals from Conor Dimaio and Eoghan Stokes put Ireland in first half command. The hosts scored early in the second half and dominated much of the play thereafter, but were foiled by a stout defensive performance with goalkeeper Peter Burke to the fore. Booth - RIP - Tenth Anniversary
In this year of 2012, we mark the tenth anniversary of the sad passing of Tony Booth, whose contribution to the development of the Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club (London) is indefinable. Long standing members will be aware that St Luke's Hospice, Kenton played a supporting role during Tony's sad departure from this life and, together with his widow Catherine and son Turlough, the Club encourages any support, however small, that club members and friends can lend to the Hospice. 'Personality of the Year' Awards...14/01/2012
The Soccer Writers Association of Ireland in conjunction with Airtricity have announced former Shamrock Rovers and now Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill as winner of the 'Personality of the Year' award and Gerard Doherty of Derry City as the 'Goalkeeper of the Year' for the 2011 season. The organisers also made a 'Special Merit Award' to Eoin Hand for his services to football. Guest of Honour, Giovanni Trapattoni also received a special presentation. The awards were presented at the SWAI Annual Banquet in the Conrad Hotel, Dublin last night. |
